Much, Much going on!!!

I haven’t written anything in a while, but that’s just because there’s so much going on right now, I need to keep up with the work I love to do…and thankfully…that’s been a challenge!
Most of Chapelwood’s work is fine woodworking. Right now, I’m working on some custom nightstands. These nightstands will fit with the unique contour of the customer’s existing furniture, will feature pull-out trays for coffee cups, and drawers that pivot out rather than pull out. I am putting my machinery and (and maybe my sanity?) to the test as there are no nice 90 or 45 degree joints. They are all expected angles like 54.5 and 103 degrees.
Thankfully, as a result of some other projects, I have plenty of scrap wood that I can use to prototype and test my cuts before I do the real cuts on the beautiful curly maple that these are being made from.
With Christmas coming, there’s progress on the 2022 Advent wreath. I’ll have both the 2021 and 2022 style available soon as well as the minimalist Nativity set. I’ve already got pre-orders for some of those and I need to get them complete, packaged and shipped next week.
Meanwhile, I’m pretty thankful for a large order of sidewalk sandwich boards for an international restaurant chain. These are made from plywood and pine. I certainly wouldn’t classify them as fine woodworking, but they are a lot of fun to build en masse and let keep well practiced on process control and improvement.
…and yes…Chapelwood is quickly outgrowing the 450 square foot facility. We’ve started looking for new and expanded space, but that may be a little while. That just means that I have to make best use of the good space I already have. I’m not going to rush that move.
